A historic landmark honoring legacy, craftsmanship, and African American excellence.
Built in 1915, the Dave Patton House stands as a powerful testament to the life and work of Dave Patton — a visionary entrepreneur, builder, and community leader. From humble beginnings hauling goods with two mules, Patton rose to become one of Mobile’s most influential African American contractors and real estate developers.
Designed in the Mediterranean Revival style by architect George Bigelow Rogers, the home reflects both architectural beauty and the success of its original owner.
Patton’s work helped shape Mobile’s infrastructure — contributing to roads, schools, and notable landmarks across the city.
The Dave Patton House is proudly included in the Dora Franklin Finley African-American Heritage Trail, a collection of historic sites that preserve and celebrate African American history in Mobile. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
Under the leadership of Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, the Mobile County Commission, and through ongoing restoration efforts led by Rogers & Willard in partnership with Watermark Design Group LLC and Thompson Engineering, the Dave Patton House will serve as a cornerstone of the Mobile County Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District.
